The Cycle...drugs, rehab, drugs, jail, freedom, drugs, prison, death?

The cycle for many never changes.

I've read so many stories or seen numbers of shows about people with addiction normally end up in jail or prison at some point in their life. What really amazes me is how many of them after doing their time will return back to jail or prison normally within a year. I believe the number was close to 80%. That is an unbelievable high number. That also tells me that majority of time, the jail or prison stay did nothing to help them with recovery so that they can later return to society and go on to succeed in life.

Rehab and education needs to be the top priority of these facilities. I would feel better as a tax payer knowing that I am not just paying for a facility to exist but rather for these facilities to benefit those that are going to be returning back to the streets!  If the stats of returning back to prison is 80%, when is someone going to have an ah-ha moment and do something to help these people while in prison? It only makes sense to help with healing and not just cover with a temporary band-aid....(a cell) because the reality is, is that they are going to return and the cycle never ends.

I know of some places that are putting forth the effort of more rehab and education, but this needs to be going on in ALL facilities across the board. When I hear about the concerns of this issue, majority of the time, it comes down to money. Really? When you look at the cycle and look at the people that have been robbed, murdered, families devistated, children without their mom or dad, parents that have lost their children........how can we afford NOT to make this top priority?
